The city of Český Krumlov belongs, together with Prague and Karlovy Vary, to the most attractive and sought after tourist destinations in the Czech Republic. It lies on the both riverbanks of the Vltava that meanders here (This fact gave it its original German name Krumme Aue), not far from the Southern Bohemian capital of České Budějovice. The first preserved mention of Český Krumlov dates back to the year 1253, but the initial settlement goes even further into the past. In the course of centuries, the city was held by notable Czech aristocratic houses – the Vítkoveces, the Rožmberks, the Eggenberks and the Schwarzenbers. The architectonic dominant of the city of Český Krumlov is the complex of the state castle and chateau of Český Krumlov. This originally a gothic structure was reconstructed upon the request of the then reigning dynasties. Today it reveals the influence of Baroque, Renaissance and other architectonic styles. The city alone boasts about its incredibly well-maintained, Renaissance picturesque historical center whose appeal is even greater thanks to the permanent residence of city people which adds to the attractiveness and rarity of Český Krumlov. Every year, the city hosts the Rosarians’ Festival taking place during the solstice period. It is the time when the hotels and guest houses in Český Krumlov literally bursts at the seams. Accommodation in Český Krumlov can be found, amongst others, in the Dvořák Hotel, those who prefer locations in the historical center of Český Krumlov can choose the Leonardo Hotel or the Seneca Hotel; finally, situated just a few steps from the castle tower is the hotel U města Vídně. Right in the square you can find another comfortable hotel called Zlatý Anděl whose Cocktail bar enjoys popularity among both local guests and tourists. The city of Český Krumlov and its surroundings invite its guests to a great variety of trips, cultural and sports events. In the summer, the park of the Český Krumlov castle becomes the place of open-air theater performances during which theater goers watch an action on a unique rotating stage. The lovers of art are recommended to visit the Museum of Egon Schiele. Approximately 200m from the Český Krumlov castle are the premises of the Český Krumlov Tennis center with outdoor clay courts, a sports dome with an artificial surface floor, a hotel and a cozy restaurant. Golf lovers are invited to try the golf courses in Větřní, Lipno and Hluboka, the latter also offering Martin Damm’s Tennis Center. Hluboka tops the list of tourist must-see places thanks to its wonderful Renaissance château. The Lipno Dam natural range appeals mainly to the lovers of water sports and water fun activities. Very good accommodation can be found in the Hotel Jenišov. Beer connoisseurs definitely cannot miss a visit to the Royal Eggenberg Brewery in Český Krumlov; the brewery was established in the mid 16th century and has been operated sever since. Not far away is the city of České Budějovice and a famous Budvar brewery. If you decide to stay longer in the city, you can find accommodation in the Hotel Dvořák, Hotel Malý pivovar, Hotel Adler or Hotel U solné brány.
